Withdrawn as duplicates from the Potlatch Forests, Inc. records deposited at the University of Idaho are several historical accounts of the Potlatch company and the town; sample legal forms; records of the Potlatch townsite division; records concerning timber sales, 1915-1949; records of mill equipment, 1920-1927; records of labor relations, 1939-1948; records of students at Potlatch High School, 1936-1942; records of Potlatch Mercantile, 1935-1938; records of Potlatch Hotel, 1929-1932; and an inventory of Elk River townsite, 1927. Additional materials from various sources relate to Potlatch Forests, Inc. and associated companies, life in the town of Potlatch, residents of Potlatch, the organization and equipment of the Potlatch mill, research by Keith Petersen on the history of Potlatch; and the history of the lumber industry. Included are correspondence, clippings, newsletters, photographs, forms, maps, townsite plats, diplomas, and other items.

The Potlatch Lumber Company was incorporated in 1903 and acquired large timber holdings in Latah County, Idaho. In 1905-06 it constructed the company town of Potlatch and the largest white pine sawmill in the world in that community. In 1931 the Potlatch Lumber Company merged with the Clearwater and Edward Rutledge Timber Companies to form Potlatch Forests, Inc.; the name was later changed to Potlatch Corporation.
